At Maple Infants’ we aim to promote the importance of being a happy, healthy person, physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. We provide our children with a safe, nurturing environment in order to develop their confidence and their key physical skills to the best of their abilities. We are passionate about installing lifelong values into our PE teaching and providing opportunities for children to demonstrate resilience, determination, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage focuses on the physical development of the children’s gross motor and fine motor skills. We provide opportunities for the children to move in different ways, develop balance, to climb over, under and through equipment, to jump and land safely and appropriately. We use games that require the children to negotiate their speed, changing direction and avoiding obstacles such as their peers. The children are offered equipment to control and manipulate to further their coordination and in turn strengthen their hands and the way they handle smaller tools such as scissors and pencils for writing.
In KS1, we inspire the children to be healthy and active for prolonged periods. We aim to develop the children’s confidence and capability in fundamental skills as well as their agility, balance, coordination and fitness. We offer a wide variety of physical activities such as football, basketball, rugby, hockey, dance, gymnastics and tennis, to inspire the children’s interests and introduce them to different sports. The children engage competitively in invasion games and are introduced to using tactics such as attacking and defending. We are proud to build characteristics such as following game rules, fairness and respect through our PE teaching.
