WC: 09/11/20        OUR WEEK IN RECEPTION
-Together we learn and grow -

Phonics Play- Remote Learning

We have taken out a subscription with Phonics Play for parents to access online resources and games at home. The children are used to playing the games on the website in class so should be able to play these at home. They provide an excellent opportunity for the children to practise the phonics they are learning in class.

A Nurturing Environment

We will be reading stories about helping each other this week. We will talk about how to be a good friend and think of ways to be helpful at school and at home.

Phonics and early language skills

We will be looking at the new sounds r, h,b and f. We will also practise reading our phase 2 tricky words I, the, to, go, no and into as well as the phase 3 tricky words he and she.

Reading

This week we will be learning about dinosaurs through these texts:

  • Dinosaurs Galore
  • Harry and the Dinosaurs go to the Museum

We will also read about dinosaurs in non-fiction books and begin to learn dinosaur facts.

Early Mathematics

We will begin talking about 2D shapes, playing with them, building with them and exploring the shapes we find in the environment. The children will have opportunities to learn rhymes and poems that will support them in learning the names of familiar 2D shapes and their properties.

Anti-bullying week

Anti- Bullying Week, with the theme ‘United Against Bullying’ will take place from Monday 16th of November to Friday 20th of November.  Maple Infants’ Odd Socks Day will take place on Wednesday 18th November.
As a fun way to unite us in our week of activities we are inviting children to come to school wearing ‘odd socks’ on Wednesday 18th of November. Wearing odd socks is about fun and laughter, but also about a message of individuality, acceptance and tolerance.

Additional information

Please could we ask that children do not bring in toys or small objects from home into school. We are finding some of the children are bringing items in their pockets and they can become very upset if these get lost in class. Thank you!
