Miss Dowd leads on Phonics, Ms Majurey leads Reading, and Ms Brookes leads on Writing at Maple Infants' School.
At Maple Infants’ School we recognize that the development and use of communication and language are at the heart of young children’s learning.  We believe that it is the right of every child to become a competent and confident user of the English language.  As children develop speaking and listening skills, they build the foundations for reading and writing.  We strive to cultivate a real enjoyment of reading and writing that will continue throughout our pupils’ lives.

Phonics is taught throughout Maple Infants' School using a variety of creative, fun and engaging strategies along side the Letters and Sounds Programme.

We actively promote and foster a love of reading with our pupils. Reading is taught using our home reading scheme, Oxford Reading Tree, however this is supplemented with access to a range of high quality text across the curriculum. Texts are carefully chosen to provide breadth, help pupils to develop their comprehension skills and increase their exposure to new vocabulary.
