-Together we learn and grow –
A Nurturing Environment
We will continue to follow the Jigsaw curriculum in school. Next week we will be exploring what it means to belong to our class. We will be talking about us as a class group, our classroom and the responsibilities we have in our class.
Next week the children will be exploring these graphemes:
l, ll, ss, j, v, w, x, y, z
The trigraph of the week is:
ure as in cure and pure
Next week the children will be practising reading and writing the tricky words:
me be you
This week our learning will focus around the text ‘Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram. We will spend time reading and exploring this book multiple times during the week. We are going to be practising our sequencing skills by ordering the key events in the text. We will then practice orally retelling the story in the correct sequence our own words. Listen to the story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt5zQ1UO6rE
Thank you for your work at home with your child’s reading. It has been lovely to read how your child is getting on in their reading records! We encourage daily reading with your child to help develop their word-reading and comprehension skills.
Next week we will continue our work on instruction writing. Using our class book ‘Man on the Moon’, we will be writing instructions for an astronaut’s day! The children will draw on their verbs and seuquencing knowledge to write their instructions.
We will also focusing on handwriting with the children, practising the cursive formation of letters.
Whilst sequencing our text ‘Man on the Moon’ and writing our instructions, we will be focusing on sequencing and time words, such as, first, next, then, after that, finally
Next week we will exploring 1 more and 1 less than a number within 10. The children will do this using objects alongside numeric representations. Children will be encouraged to verbalise their understandings,
“1 more than ______ is __________” “_________ is 1 more than _________”
“1 less than _______ is __________” “_________ is 1 more than _________”
Later in the week we will practise comparing numbers within 10. We will look at two sets of objects (for example, bowls and spoons), count each set carefully and then compare them.
“there are more _____ than _____”
“there are fewer _______ than _____”
Have a lovely weekend
