Help at the Christmas Fair

This year’s Maple Infants’ Christmas Fair is fast approaching and we are looking for help.  Any time you can give will be very much appreciated.

We need help setting up beforehand and clearing away afterwards, and also time helping with the stalls during the event. Class reps are organising rotas for each stall, so if you can give half an hour or an hour, or even all the way through that would be great.

We particularly need additional help with two of the stalls: refreshments and Santa’s Grotto. Also, we need people who can do face painting.

If you haven’t seen your class rep yet, please let them know if you can help in any way on 3 December. The fair opens at 11 am and closes at 2 pm.  We will be opening for set up at 8am for the Grotto.

Kind regards,

Colin, Silke and Jennie

Teachers’ gifts guidelines

Dear Friends,

(This year as well as the usual leaflets in school bags and committee notices we hope to keep you better up-to-date on the web as well. Hopefully you’ll be less likely to miss things and you can look things up too. So here we go …)

Silke, Clare and I have had a very productive meeting with Mrs Robinson on Friday morning about the Friends and how we will work together for the school and community this year.

She mentioned some problems with end-of-year and end-of-term gifts for teachers from parents and that there should be a limit in value. Monetary gifts have to be declared. Obviously Mrs Robinson fully supports gifts for teachers, but we all think we should adopt the philosophy that ‘it’s the thought that counts’, and not the monetary value.

Perhaps the best way to do this is to keep it simple with a personalised card from the children, perhaps with flowers or chocolates. The card is something that the teacher can treasure as a memory of the class and is perhaps the best gift of all.

Best wishes,
Colin, Silke and Jennie

Mufti day this Friday, bring a bottle!

Don’t forget – no uniform required this Friday 17th if you bring a bottle to school for the Summer Fair bottle stall on Saturday 18th.

Christmas Fair

This year our Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday 11th December 2011, between 11am and 2pm.

There will be a fantastic selection of stalls including gifts, games, christmas crafts, tombolas and a raffle, with great prizes. Plus of course Santa’s Grotto!

2 Mufti Days Friday 20 & 27 Nov

Following tradition, there will be two mufti days in the run up to the fair.

On Friday 20 November, children can wear their own clothes to school in return for bringing a jar for the Jar Tombola – a very popular stall! Your child can decorate an empty jar and fill it with sweets, toys or any other little goodies to bring in. For those of you who have been hot on your recycling, there will be plenty of empty jars available from the shed next to the scooter park, nearer the time.

The second mufti day will be on Friday 27 November. In return for wearing their own clothes, each child is asked to bring a bottle for the Bottle Tombola containing cordial, sauce, wine, soft drinks, cooking oils – whatever you wish.

Christmas Fair – 28 Nov

xmasThe major event for the Autumn Term will be the Christmas Fair.

Make sure you get the date in the diary, Saturday 28 November from 11am to 2pm.

Father Christmas will be there in his grotto, there will be numerous stalls selling yummy cakes, toys, crafts, and plenty of games and activities to keep the kids entertained. We will also have a bouncy castle, face painting and lots more!

A meeting was held to discuss planning for the fair and your class reps will be rallying your support over the coming weeks!

Donations

We will be asking for your donations of cakes, unwanted toys and books over the coming weeks, so please keep an eye on the Friends’ noticeboards (opposite Copper Beech, next to the scooter park and in the nursery cloackroom) for dates.

Property sign adverts

Matthew James Estate Agents have kindly agreed to sponsor the event for us. They will donate £15 for each property sign advertising the fair. If you are willing to have a sign put up outside your home (for a 2 week period before the fair) consent forms will be distributed over the coming weeks. They are also making substantial donations towards Santa’s Grotto and the raffle so we can make these a fantastic feature of the event.

Help at the fair

Any help you can give for the fair, either on the day itself or beforehand would be much appreciated – the children love it and even half an hour helps enormously.

Friends AGM Sept 2009

The AGM was held on 23 September and a new Committee was voted in.

Firstly, a huge THANK YOU to last year’s Committee for all their hard work and effort over the last 12 months.

The Friends raised a whopping £14,000 for the school and so far have donated to several areas, including £3,000 towards the fencing outside the reception classes and all the outings and external shows the children attended last year.

Xmas Fayre Success

The big count is over! The Xmas Fayre including raffle ticket sales (but excluding Matthew James boards) brought in around £3,700 which is similar to last year. This is an amazing result, especially given the weather on the day.
