Maths Week in Silver Birch

Silver Birch Class have had a great time during Maths Week, culminating in a visit from a Maths Magician today.  Over the course of the week we have taken part in the Whole School Maths Challenge, followed the Maple Maths Trail in the playground, and have learnt about shape, problem solving and money.

We would like to say a special thank you to Mr Wells (AKA Mr Maths!) for his organisation and enthusiasm!

Maple Infants’ Eco Blog #2

This edition of the Eco Blog rounds up our activity as an Eco-School this term.

The Maple Eco Team is delighted that Maple has achieved the Bronze Award, a great first step on our journey towards more sustainable living.

Eco Heroes – the latest members to join the team are our pupil representatives.  There are two children from each Yr2 class and they chose Eco Heroes as their team title.  The Eco Heroes have already put together a fantastic action plan with Ms Bober which you’ll see us getting to grips with in the coming months.  We’re looking forward to the Eco Heroes taking the lead for the rest of the school as they introduce some eco topics in assembly next term.

Adopted Animals – each class has now received its info pack and soft toy for their WWF adopted animal with the funds raised from the Maple Mini Market.  This has already sparked great creativity and discussion in class, including inspiring Silver Birch’s “Ocean’s Got Talent” class assembly.

Eco notice board – you can read more about the initiatives underway at Maple in support of our Eco-Schools Bronze Award on the Eco Notice Board opposite the school office.

Growing into spring – children across the school have been getting to grips with growing as we’ve been planting vegetable seeds and exploring the conditions plants need to thrive.  We look forward to a bumper crop in the summer term.  If you have green fingers and can support your class with help planting or donating seedlings do let your class teacher know.

Waste – our composting scheme for peel and cores at snack time is going well and children are really getting the hang of separating their waste.  This term we are talking to the lunchtime supervisors about the feasibility of separating compostable waste at lunch time.

You can read more about what being an Eco-School means at www.eco-school.org.uk.
