Maths Parent Workshop

Firstly, thank you so much for all the parents that attended the Maths Workshop yesterday.  It is lovely to teach in a school with so many supportive parents.

As I promised in the meeting, I have attached a copy of the HUNDRED GRID we use in school.

I have taken on board the feedback I received and I am already considering the idea of having a longer workshop next year which will involve both time using the maths resources with some children and sharing strategies with parents.

It was lovely to hear so many positive comments and I truly hope it was a useful session.

Here is the link to the workshop slideshow which I have uploaded on the SlideShare website, if you were unable to attend and wish to see what was discussed:

www.counton.org/games
An innovative site that includes the classic game – ‘Who wants to be a Mathonaire? with Chris Tangent!

Win a mystery prize – The Surbiton Maths Trail Family Challenge 2011

The Surbiton Maths Trail is a challenge that involves you taking your child along a planned route from school, along Surbiton High Street and back to school. Along the way you will answer maths questions and, hopefully (!), recognise that “Maths is Everywhere Not Just in the Classroom!”

Trail booklets will be handed out at the start of the week and completed entries should be handed in to your class red tray by Monday 14th November.

Mrs Robinson will select 5 winning entries from a hat to win the mystery prizes!

Didn’t get the Trail Booklet? Download it here - SurbitonMathsTrailChildrensBooklet.pdf (315K)

ARTY PARTY and Dress Up Day!

Just to remind you that on FRIDAY we have asked that children come to school dressed as their favourite personality from the ARTS. This may include a dancer, a well known actor/performer, a famous artist or a popular musician!  Most children love dressing up and it really supports the celebratory ethos of our ARTS’ FESTIVAL!

Also…don’t forget our ARTY PARTY that completes the celebrations this Friday 2nd July!
Come along with family and friends and enjoy the outside gallery of your child’s work, join in with the family art project, savour some fantastic food from around the world, marvel at the amazing dance displays and just try to stop yourself from bopping along to our lively world music.  (Bet you can’t!)

A real treat for a summer’s afternoon!
