Congratulations!

Congratulatons to Miss Helen Funnell for gaining a ‘commended’ status in the London area Primary School Teacher of the Year Award Ceremony last Tuesday!! Helen was nominated by a parent last year and we are all delighted that she has achieved recognition for her hard work at Maple!

On another note … (Newsletter 6, 26.06.09)

We have lots of activities taking place over the next few weeks, including Parent Consultations, Fun & Games morning, The Infant Music Festival and The Country Dance Festival to name but a few. Please see the dates for your diary.

In my final letter, I will be informing you of which classes your children will be in next year and who will be teaching them. As usual, the children will meet their new teacher before the end of term and be informed as to which class area they will be based.

As the weather gets hotter, don’t forget to purchase a Maple sun-hat for your child. The Maple hats have soft brims unlike the baseball caps that some of the children wear presently. Baseball caps are really unsuitable for school use as the temptation to use them as a Frisbee is very great! They can really hurt children if thrown in the playground.

Hopefully we will all enjoy the busy run up to the end of term!

Your sincerely,
Liz Robinson

Mrs Sheelagh Tobin retires (Newsletter 6, 26.06.09)

As we come towards the end of the school year, there are the inevitable staff changes taking place at Maple. Mrs Sheelagh Tobin, Nursery Teacher, will be retiring at the end of this term.

We will be sad to lose such an experienced teacher whose kind, calm manner with her pupils has always been remarked upon and commended by parents and pupils alike.

Any donations you may wish to make towards a leaving gift for Mrs Tobin, please put in a sealed envelope marked ‘Retirement donation – for the attention of the Business Manager’.

We will, of course, be having our final assembly of the year at 11.00am on the last day (Wednesday 22nd July) and any parents or ex-pupils are more than welcome to attend to say their goodbyes to Mrs Tobin.

Please don’t forget that school closes at 12 noon on this day.

Additional classroom (Newsletter 6, 26.06.09)

The work to install the additional classroom has taken place very swiftly and efficiently over the past fortnight. I hope that you have not experienced too much inconvenience and thank you all for your patience.

As you can see, the narrow congested area outside Silver Birch Class is being greatly improved upon and we hope to utilize the double gates as an entrance/exit area in the Autumn term.

In September, two Year 1 classes will be based in the present additional classrooms and the third class will be based in Cedar Class to provide a Year 1 unit. The children will access outdoor learning from the back of the classrooms with Cedar Class using the areas directly in front of the class between the demountables and the patio and grass space in front of Silver Birch. Parents will be asked to wait round the back of the demountables when picking up and dropping off.

The Receptions will be based in the main building next year with an extended fenced off area providing a delineated, protected play space for the children. Please be reassured that everything is being done to provide high quality provision for your children although I know it has been uncomfortable and difficult at times!

Yours sincerely,
Liz Robinson

Abandoned scooters (Newsletter 6, 26.06.09)

Over the year a number of scooters have been abandoned in the playground!

On the last day they will be placed by the back gate for anyone to claim. If they do not find homes they will go to the charity shop.

Don’t forget that bikes should not be parked there as we do not have enough space.
